CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Second-ranked Boston College scored five unanswered goals and beat fourth-ranked New Hampshire, 5-2, in front of a sellout crowd of 7,884 fans at Kelley Rink on Friday night.

Six forwards registered multiple points in the contest, which featured the top two teams in the conference in the first game of a home-and-home series. The Eagles and Wildcats will face off in Durham's Whittemore Center tomorrow night.

Sophomore forward Johnny Gaudreau, competing in his first game since capturing a gold medal as a member of the U.S. National Team at the World Junior Championships in Russia last week, led the way with one goal and two terrific assists - linemate Pat Mullane was on the scoring end of each.

Juniors Bill Arnold and Kevin Hayes tallied one goal and one assist each, while senior Steven Whitney and sophomore Destry Straight both notched a pair of assists.

After the home team fell behind 1-0 at 8:54 of the first period on a goal by Jay Camper, Hayes answered with a goal at the 13:29 mark on a feed from Arnold. Mullane then scored the first of his two goals at 17:42 of the first to give the Eagles a lead they would not relinquish.

Boston College scored three even-strength second period goals to help take control of the game.

Gaudreau scored first at 5:01, beating New Hampshire goalie Casey DeSmith (12 saves) on a nifty backhander, Mullane tallied at 15:43 and Arnold capped the scoring for the Eagles with 14.7 seconds left in the frame.

New Hampshire forward Kevin Goumas scored the lone goal of the third frame 37 seconds into the third period.

BC goalie Parker Milner stopped 31 shots to capture his 13th win this season and the 55th of his career.
