TEMPE, Ariz. - Jackson Niedermayer and Demetrios Koumontzis each scored twice for ASU as the University of New Hampshire men's hockey team fell to Arizona State, 5-1, on Friday night at the Oceanside Ice Arena.

The Wildcats fall to 2-1-0 and ASU improves 2-3-0.

UP NEXT: UNH and Arizona State will conclude its two-game series on Saturday, Oct. 16 at 7 p.m. (ET) at the Oceanside Ice Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- The Wildcats took a 1-0 lead when freshman forward Robert Cronin (Plymouth, Mass.) netted his second goal of the season to give UNH a 1-0 lead at 7:21 of the first period. Freshman defenseman Alex Gagne (Bedford, N.H.) sent a pass from the blue line to Cronin at the right post who then buried the puck glove side. Senior forward Tyler Ward (Kamloops, British Columbia) also posted an assist on the goal.

- ASU outshot UNH 14-13 in the first period, while each team went 0-1 on the power play.

- Arizona State tied the game at 1-1 at 4:15 of the second period on a goal by Jackson Niedermayer as he found the upper stick side of the net.

- At 6:05, ASU went on a five-minute power play but the Wildcats were able to kill it off as the game remained tied at 1-1. Senior goalie Mike Robinson (Bedford, N.H.) was called for a five-minute major and given a game misconduct as sophomore goalie Jeremy Forman (Northbrook, Ill.) entered the contest, making two saves during the final 13:30 of the second period.

- UNH outshot ASU by an 11-7 margin for the period, while the Wildcats went 0-1 on the man-advantage and Arizona State went 0-2.

- ASU took a 2-1 lead with third period as Demetrios Koumontzis fired a one-timer from the slot to the back of the net.

- Then at 6:18, Niedermayer scored his second goal of the contest to increase the ASU lead to 3-1.

- Just 1:01 later, Johnny Walker made it a 4-1 game with his second goal of the season.

- Koumontzis netted his second goal of the game at 11:00 for the last goal of the game for the 5-1 final.


INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Robinson made 17 saves during the first 26:05, while Forman posted 13 during 33:39 of action. Cole Brady tallied 34 saves to earn the win for ASU.

- Each team took 35 shots and went 0-3 on the power play.
