Merrimack Tops UConn, Vermont Grabs First WHEA Win of the Year

#8 Northeastern stayed undefeated in league play, toppling #10 Maine, 3-0, behind the second shutout of the year by Aerin Frankel (Briarcliff Manor, N.Y.). Veronika Pettey (So., F; Potomac, Md.) extended her point streak to six straight games in the process and has found the back of the net in five of her six outings this year.

#6 Boston College won its first two league games of the season in a weekend home stand, allowing just one goal in a 3-1 and 3-0 wins over M errimack and Vermont, respectively. Rookie goaltender Maddy McArthur (St. Catherine's, Ont.) made 48 saves across the two games and picked up her first career shutout on Saturday against the Catamounts.

Providence's Maureen Murphy (Buffalo, N.Y.) racked up five points (2g, 3a) in two games for the Friars, scoring the overtime-winner on Friday at Penn State. She has at least two points in each of the five games in which she has appeared this season after having just seven multi-point games in all of 2017-18.

Merrimack split a weekend in WHEA play, toppling UConn, 3-1, on Saturday. Samantha Ridgewell (Outlook, Sask.) went 1-1-0 in two starts, stopping a career-high 41 shots in the victory over the Huskies. The senior netminder saved 78 shots in her two outings.

Veronika Pettey - Northeastern

Veronika Pettey (So., F; Potomac, Md.) extended her season-opening point streak to six straight games, handing out two assists on Friday, including one on the game-winning goal, and potted a goal in a 3-1 win at UNH. Pettey has found the back of the net in five of her six games this year and has 10 points on the season (5g, 5a).

Maddy McArthur - Boston College

Maddy McArthur (Fr., G; St. Catherine's, Ont.) made 48 saves as she backstopped BC to a weekend sweep in league play, picking up 0.50/.980 numbers along the way. Her first career shutout came Saturday in a 25-save effort against Vermont.

Samantha Ridgewell - Merrimack

Samantha Ridgewell (Sr., G; Outlook, Sask.) went 1-1-0 on the weekend, stopping a career-high 41 shots against UConn in a 3-1 victory. Overall, she saved 78 shots in her two outings.


WOMEN’S HOCKEY EAST TOP PERFORMERS

Caitrin Lonergan, BC (Jr., F; Roslindale, Mass.) Wrapped a 2-0-0 weekend for the Eagles with three points (1g, 2a) and finished with a league-best plus-four. She fired nine shots on net and added 17 wins at the face off dot.

Megan Keller, BC (Sr., F; Farmington Hills, Mich.) Netted the game-winning goal against Merrimack on Friday, adding an assist to finish with two points on the day. She added an assist on Saturday against Vermont to finish tops among all league blueliners with three points, nine shots on goal and a plus-two rating.

Jesse Compher, BU (So., F; Northbrook, Ill.) Set up both Terrier goals last weekend, helping BU earn a 1-1 draw with UConn on Friday.

Corinne Schroeder, BU (So., G, Elm Creek, Man.) Finished a two-game weekend with a .952 SV% and 1.46 GAA, stopping 59 saves in her two appearances.

Liga Miljone, ME (Fr., F; Riga, Latvia) Dished out an assist in a 2-1 win over BU Saturday, moving into the team lead with eight points on three goals and five assists through six games.

Loryn Porter, ME (So., G; North Bay, Ont.) Stopped 29 of 30 shots she faced against BU on Saturday, with the only goal allowed coming in a six-on-four situation.

Alyson Matteau, ME (Sr., D; Mirabel, Que.) Blocked nine shots on the weekend, including seven in a 2-1 win at BU.

Megan Fergusson, MC (So., F; Kitchener, Ont.) Scored the lone Merrimack goal in a 3-1 setback to #6 BC before setting up a goal in a 3-1 league win over UConn. She sits second on the team in points with five (3g, 2a).

Taylor Wenczkowski, UNH (Jr., F; Rochester, N.H.) Potted a late-third period goal against NU to cut the Huskies' lead to one.

Lauren Martin, UNH (Fr., F; Cambridge, Ont.) Dished out a helper in a 2-1 setback to Vermont on Friday.

Marie-Jo Pelletier, UNH (Sr., D; Dalhousie, N.B.) Scored late in the third period to pull New Hampshire within one against Vermont on Friday.

Alina Mueller, NU (Fr., F; Winterthur, Switzerland) Scored a goal and an assist in a weekend sweep over league opponents #10 Maine and UNH. Dished a power-play assist on Friday and opened the scoring on Saturday while winning 22 face offs in two games, tied for the most among all first-year league players.

Aerin Frankel (So., G; Briarcliff Manor, N.Y.) pitched her second shutout in three starts this year, making 25 saves in a 3-0 win over #10 Maine on Friday. She stopped 16 of those attempts in the third period along to backbone the Huskies to their second win over a top-10 opponent this season.

In Saturday's setback, she set up two power-play strikes. Sara Hjalmarsson, PC (Fr., F: Bakeryd, Sweden) Scored a goal and added an assist on Saturday, both on the power play.

Whitney Dove, PC (Jr., D; Port Moody, B.C.) Netted the game-tying goal Friday night, knotting the game at one, before finding the back of the net and adding an assist on Saturday.

Eve-Audrey Picard, UVM (So., F; Longueuil, Que.) Potted the game-winning goal in a 2-1 win over New Hampshire.

Theresa Schafzhal, UVM (Fr., F; Weiz, Austria) Picked up her first career point on an assist against New Hampshire and fired seven shots on net across a weekend split for the Catamounts.
