HOCKEY EAST HEADLINES

The Northeastern Huskies advanced to the National Championship game for the first time in program history, forcing overtime before falling to Wisconsin in the extra frame on Saturday night. Defenseman Skylar Fontaine (East Greenwich, R.I.) racked up five points (3g, 2a) in three games to lead the national tournament in scoring. Two of her goals were game-winning strikes, including an overtime winner in the semifinals against Minnesota Duluth.

Aerin Frankel (Briarcliff Manor, N.Y.) made a season-high 35 saves for the Huskies and earned all-tournament honors as the top goaltender in the NCAA tournament. She finished the year with an NCAA-best 20 wins this season. Her single-season save percentage and goals against average rank top-two in NCAA history.

Alina Mueller (Winterthur, Switzerland) joins Frankel and Fontaine on the NCAA All-Tournament Team.

Goaltending shone for all three Hockey East teams in the national tournament. Boston College’s Abigail Levy (Congers, N.Y.) made a career-high 45 saves in the NCAA quarterfinal game against No. 3 Ohio State, while Providence’s Sandra Abstreiter (Freising, Germany) kicked out 41 shots in the national quarterfinals against Wisconsin, the eventual national champion.

Two of her goals were game-winning strikes, including an overtime winner in the semifinals against Minnesota Duluth.

Aerin Frankel - Northeastern

Aerin Frankel (Briarclif Manor, N.Y.) backboned Northeastern to the national championship game, making 81 saves on 86 shots in three games in the national tournament for a 1.48 goals against average and .942 save percentage. She was named a Top 3 finalist for the Patty Kazmaier Award. The winner will be announced Saturday, March 27, as part of a special broadcast on NHL Network.


HOCKEY EAST TOP PERFORMERS

Abigail Levy, BC (Jr., G; Congers, N.Y.) Made a career-high 45 saves in the NCAA quarterfinal game against No. 3 Ohio State.

Sandra Abstreiter, PC (Jr., G; Freising, Germany) Made 41 saves in the national quarterfinals against Wisconsin, the eventual national champion.

Chloe Aurard, NU (Jr., F; Villard-de-Lans, France) Tied the national championship game with a blistering shot just 39 seconds after No. 2 Wisconsin took the lead in the third period. Aurard’s goal forced overtime.

Alina Mueller, NU (Jr., F: Winterthur, Switzerland) Scored once and added two assists in three national tournament games. She was named to the all-tournament team for her efforts in packing the Huskies to the championship tilt.
