Box Score
BOSTON, Mass. - Sophomore Caroline Donahue's (Westwood, Mass.) first period goal
guided the University of Vermont women's hockey team to its first-ever Hockey
East victory on Saturday night, 1-0 over Northeastern. The Catamounts have now
won two straight contests and improve to 2-8-2 overall and 1-1-1 in league
play.
The sophomore scored the only goal of the contest just 4:55 into the game,
unassisted. The goal was Donahue's third on the season, which is tied for the
team lead.
After spending its first four seasons of Division I as a member of the ECAC
Hockey League, the victory was Vermont's first league win in its inaugural
season of Hockey East.
With the win, Vermont has now won back-to-back contests, also defeating Robert
Morris 3-1 on November 6. Junior Shivaun Siegl (Livonia, N.Y.) went the
distance in net for the Catamounts, stopping all 27 shots that she faced to
give Vermont its first shutout of the season. Marisa Hourihan made 27 saves as
well for Northeastern, as the Catamounts out shot the Huskies 28-27 in the
contest.
It was the second straight game that Northeastern has been shut out, as the
Huskies fall to 1-9-1 overall and 1-4-1 in conference action. Four of Vermont's
last six victories have been shutouts.
Vermont returns to action tomorrow as the Catamounts are at Boston University
starting at 3:00pm. The two newest members of Hockey East have already met
twice this season, resulting in a 3-3 tie and a 4-1 Terrier victory in
Burlington.
