Vermont freshman defenseman Megan Dalbec was named Hockey East's Top Scholar-Athlete

WAKEFIELD, Mass. - Hockey East is pleased to announce that 89 student-athletes have been named to the 2010-2011 WHEA All-Academic Team in its ninth season of play, which was announced on Wednesday afternoon. Each student-athlete achieved a grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or better in each of the two academic periods during which she was actively competing.

The league also honored four student-athletes that received "Distinguished Scholar" status. Those earning "Distinguished Scholar" status achieved a 3.0 or better in each semester over four varsity seasons. Maine's Jennie Gallo (Castlegar, B.C.) and Danielle Cyr (Cumberland, Maine) were two teammates honored with the disctinction, while Boston College's Molly Schaus (Natick, Mass.) and UNH's Kayley Herman (Weyburn, Sask.) were also recipients of the honor.

Vermont freshman defenseman Megan Dalbec (Champlin, Minn.) was named the Hockey East Top Scholar-Athlete for the year with a perfect 4.00 grade point average.
