
Hyannis, Mass. -- The Women's Hockey East Association announced the league's 2013 All-Star teams, as voted on by the league's eight head coaches, on Friday night at the Resort and Conference Center at Hyannis at the annual Championship Awards Banquet.
Boston College sophomore forward Alex Carpenter (North Reading, Mass.), the 2013 Athletic Republic Player of the Year, headlined the group of unanimous First-Team All Stars, along with teammate and senior Blake Bolden (Stow, Ohio) on defense, Boston University junior Marie-Philip Poulin (Beauceville, Que.) and Northeastern sophomore Kendall Coyne (Palos Heights, Ill.) rounding out the First-Team forwards. Vermont junior goaltender Roxanne Douville (Beloeil, Que.) was also named to the First-Team, along with Boston University junior blueliner Shannon Doyle (Baldwin, Ont.). Douville is the first Catamount in school history to take home an All-Star designation.
The Second-Team was headlined by a trio of Eagles, including Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Year Haley Skarupa (Rockville, Md.) at forward, senior goaltender Corinne Boyles (Wheaton, Ill.) and sophomore defenseman Emily Pfalzer (Getzville, N.Y.). Seniors Casey Pickett (Wilmington, Mass.) of Northeastern and Jenelle Kohanchuk (Winnipeg, Man.) of Boston University rounded out the Second-Team forwards. Freshman defenseman Alexis Crossley (Cole Harbour, N.S.) was one of two freshmen named to the All-Star squads.
The Women's Hockey East Association is an eight-team, Division-I college hockey conference which began play in 2002-2003, with offices based in Wakefield, Mass. The league also sponsors a 10 team men's league which began play in 1984-1985.
