WAKEFIELD, Mass. -- Connecticut earned three victories during the holiday week, while Providence College won the Mayor’s Cup on Saturday, while No. 5 UNH and No. 7 Boston College shutout NU on Wednesday and Sunday, respectively.

Maine and Vermont also participated in their first shootout in league history, with the Catamounts coming out on top in the fifth round on a goal by Teddy Fortin (Brunswick, Maine). UVM’s Kristen Olychuck (Kelowna, B.C.) and Maine’s Genevieve Turgeon (Lac Beauport, Que.) recorded 32 and 31 saves, respectively.

UConn defeated Yale on Saturday in the Nutmeg Classic capturing the tournament title. Rebecca Hewett (Oak Bluff, Man.) notched two assists in the victory for the Huskies. UConn blanked Brown 4-0 on Tuesday with 49 shots on goal. Netminder Jennie Bellonio (Guilford, Conn.) stopped 17 shots by the Bears. UConn was back at it on Friday, earning a 5-4 victory over No. 10 Wayne State. Nicole Tritter (Toronto, Ont.) gathered a goal and two assists on the day, while Mission Rookie of the Week Monique Weber (Rogers, Minn.) tallied a goal and an assist, bringing her week-long point total to four.

Providence won the 14th annual Mayor’s Cup over Brown in a 1-0 victory on Saturday. Genevieve Lacasse (Scarborough, Ont.) stopped all 37 shots on net, while Katy Beach (Middlebury Heights, Ohio) scored for the Friars.

UNH shut out Northeastern, 2-0, in a midweek match up on Wednesday. NU goaltender Florence Schelling (Oberengstringen, Switzerland) stopped 34 shots by the ‘Cats. UNH’s Courtney Birchard (Mississauga, Ont.) scored a short-handed goal, the eventual game-winner, in the second period. The Wildcats then fell to Colgate, 5-4, on Saturday, but UNH outshot the Raiders, 47-25, including a 34-2 advantage in the final period. BC skated to a 3-3 tie against Princeton on Friday. TPS Hockey Player of the Week Kelli Stack (Brooklyn Heights, Ohio) assisted on all three goals for the Eagles. BC went on to shut out Northeastern 2-0 on Sunday afternoon. Pure Hockey Defensive Player of the Week Molly Schaus (Natick, Mass.) earned her fourth shutout of the year in the victory, while Schelling stopped 27 shots in the loss for the Huskies.

BU traveled to New Haven and fell to Yale 4-1 on Tuesday evening, snapping the Terriers’ ten-game unbeaten streak, which was the second longest in the nation. Jenelle Kohanchuk (Winnipeg, Man.) scored BU’s lone goal, as she leads all league rookies with 15 points on the year.

Maine lost a pair to Robert Morris this weekend, despite outshooting the Colonials 42-23 on Friday night. Jennie Gallo (Castlegar, B.C.) tallied two points on the weekend, as did Vanessa Vani (Mississauga, Ont.). Vermont fell to Clarkson 4-2 on Saturday despite Olychuck’s 27 saves for the Catamounts.

Boston College: Molly Schaus recorded her third shutout in the month of November, all against Hockey East opponents to give her four shutouts on the season and 11 in her career…Schaus is currently ranked 10th in the nation with a 1.75 GAA…Kelli Stack continues her scoring streak netting four points over the weekend on 1g,3a, she is averaging 2 points per game good for fourth in the nation…Freshman Danielle Welch leads Hockey East rookies with 6g,9a for 15 points…The Eagles are averaging 3.0 goals per game.

Boston University: Yale’s 4-1 win over the Terriers on Tuesday snapped a programrecord 10-game unbeaten streak…Tuesday’s game was only the second time this season that BU has given up four goals…Freshman Jenelle Kohanchuk (Winnipeg, Man.) scored goals in back-to-back games with her tally on Tuesday at Yale…11 different players have scored goals for the Terriers this season…Senior Allyse Wilcox (Grand Blanc, Mich.) has a .928 save percentage this season, which would be a career high and program record.

University of Connecticut: The Huskies earned three-straight victories for the first time this season…defeated Yale for the second-consecutive season to win the Nutmeg Classic…UConn won the game against the Bulldogs 3-2…Dominique Thibault scored twice in the Huskies 5-4 victory over No. 10 Wayne State in the first game of the Classic…Jennie Bellonio made 17 saves in her first shutout victory with a 4-0 victory over Brown to start the week…UConn hosts Boston College for the second time this season on Friday, Dec. 5.

University of Maine: Tuesday nights’ game versus Vermont was Maine’s first tie in 25 games, dating back to January 26, 2008 against BU... The game marked Maine’s first shootout of the season, in which both Myriam Croussette and Gallo scored to push it to a fifth round before ultimately falling to Vermont... Taryn Peacock now has 31 points for her career, making her only the second Black Bear on this season’s roster to have more than 30 career points, the other being Vanessa Vani with 84... Maine players have combined for 100 total points thus far, after finishing with only 122 for all of last season... Jennie Gallo tied the Black Bears’ 2007-08 season-high for goals with seven, set by herself as a freshman.

University of New Hampshire: Courtney Birchard’s shorthanded goal against NU marked the team’s sixth of the season, and that total leads the nation…UNH recorded a season-high 47 shots, including 34 in the third period, at Colgate…The Wildcats registered their first shutout of the season in limiting Northeastern to 12 shots … Kelly Paton matched her career high of two goals and Angela Taylor equaled her personal best of two assists at Colgate.

Northeastern University: Senior Missy Elumba played her 100th career game Sunday. Elumba is the fourth active Husky to record 100 career appearances. Senior Colleen Sanborn and junior Erin Reil reached 100 in the final game of the 2007-08 season and Ali Bielawski hit the century mark earlier this year…Northeastern has successfully killed 64 of 71 opponent power-plays, including a remarkable 32 of 33 in conference play. Both the Huskies’ overall penalty kill success rate of 90.1% and their conference penalty kill success rate of 97.0% rank first in Hockey East…Autumn Prouty has extended her penalty-less streak to eleven games…Ali Bielawski has set a new career single-season high for assists (six), besting her previous mark of four. She is also only one point shy of her career high in points (nine)…Northeastern is now 5-0-1 when scoring first, and 1-5-0 when surrendering the first goal this season.

Providence College: The Friars topped Brown, 1-0, on Saturday to maintain control of the Mayor’s Cup for the second consecutive season...Freshman Genevieve Lacasse (Scarborough, Ont.) recorded her second shutout of the season in the victory... Senior Katy Beach (Cleveland, Ohio) netted the game winner, the fourth consecutive game in which a senior has done so for the Friars in Mayor’s Cup victories...Freshman Laura Veharanta (La Verne, Calif.) remains atop the Hockey East standings with seven power play goals.

University of Vermont: Vermont picked up its first Hockey East points against Maine Tuesday at Lewiston, Maine ... The Catamounts battled back from an early 2-0 deficit to force overtime before picking up the extra point with a 3-2 edge in the shootout...Tuesday’s shootout was the first-ever for Vermont...Sophomore Teddy Fortin (Brunswick, Maine), the lone Maine native on the Cats, scored the deciding goal in the shootout...Sophomore defenseman Peggy Wakeham (Bay Roberts, Newfoundland) scored twice and added an assist in three games last week. She is tied for fourth among Hockey East blueliners with nine points (3-6--9)... After five straight away from home, Vermont is back at Gutterson Fieldhouse this weekend hosting Boston University Friday and Northeastern Saturday.
