FARDELMANN HAT TRICK LEADS BC PAST QUINNIPIAC, 6-0

Chestnut Hill, Mass.--Sophomore Meghan Fardelmann recorded a hat trick in 10th-ranked Boston College women's hockey's 6-0 win over the Quinnipiac Bobcats Saturday afternoon at Kelley Rink. Fardelmann scored the Eagles' second, fourth and fifth goals, while sophomore Becky Zavisza, freshman Megan Keever and junior Lindsay Wright also notched goals.

In the 13th minute of the first period, sophomore Maggie Taverna passed up to mid ice and an open Zavisza who then went one-on-one with Bobcat goalie Laura Brennan and put Boston College up 1-0. The Eagles sprayed 10 shots at the Quinnipiac cage in the first half, but left the ice for the first intermission with the one point lead.

Fardelmann scored her first of three goals at 2:59 in the second period on the power play. Freshman Kelli Stack and Fardelmann put together a beautiful give-and-go with Stack sending a pass from the left of the goal for Fardelmann in front to score. Keever followed up three minutes later by picking up a loose rebound from freshman Anna McDonald's shot and shooting the puck past Brennan. Fardelmann scored a short-handed goal at 7:48 to give the Eagles the 4-0 advantage. Quinnipiac took 12 shots in the second period to Boston College's 13.

Fardelmann wrapped up her hat trick at 13:50 in the third period when she scored from right outside the crease on a pass from McDonald. Wright registered her first goal of the season unassisted with 12.1 seconds left in regulation.

Quinnipiac pulled Brennan with 6:10 left on the clock and replaced her with Janelle Wolitski. Brennan finished with 31 saves and Wolitski stopped five shots during her time in the net. Reigning Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week freshman Molly Schaus stopped all 23 shots on goal while in net for the Eagles. The Eagles outshot the Bobcats, 42-23.

Boston College heads up to Orono next Saturday to face the Maine Black Bears at noon.
