Freshman Michelle Binning gets game-winner for Huskies

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (October 22, 2006) - The Providence College women’s hockey team fell to UConn, 1-0 on Sunday, October 22 at Schneider Arena. With the loss, the Friars drop to 3-2-0 overall and 2-1-0 in HOCKEY EAST play. UConn pushes their unbeaten record in HOCKEY EAST action to 4-0-0 and is now 5-1-0 overall.

UConn freshman Michelle Binning (Oshawa, Ont.) scored the lone goal in the game to give the Huskies a 1-0 victory. Senior Natalie Vibert (Thunder Bay, Ont.) and junior Britney Chandler (Pickering, Ont.) picked up an assist on the goal by Binning, with just over two minutes remaining in the first period. That was all the scoring UConn needed as sophomore goaltender Brittany Wilson (Nepean, Ont.) made 31 saves in registering the shutout for the Huskies. Senior Jana Bugden (Cornerbrook, Newfoundland) made 26 saves for the Friars.

Providence will travel to Mercyhurst next weekend and play two games on Saturday, October 28 at 2:00 p.m. and Sunday, October 29 at 1:00 p.m.
