Sophomore Nicole Tritter scores two goals for Huskies

STORRS, Conn. (October 28, 2006) - The University of Connecticut women's ice hockey team completed a two-game sweep of Wayne State by defeating the Tigers 3-2 on Saturday, October 28, in Storrs, Conn.

The Huskies (7-1-0, 4-0-0 Hockey East) were the first to get on the board in the second period. Freshman Dominique Thibault (L'Original, Ont.) scored on a power play 34 seconds into the period off passes from junior Jaclyn Hawkins (Manotick, Ont.) and freshman Amy Hollstein (Pembroke, Mass.).

Wayne State (1-5) was quick to return the favor as they tied up the game off a power play goal from Melissa Boal. She was assisted by Lindsay DiPietro and Sam Poyton.

UConn came out in the third period more aggressive and it paid off as Hawkins scored off a dish from senior Natalie Vibert (Thunder Bay, Ont.) just 1:02 into the period. The Huskies would strike again just four minutes later, this time being sophomore Nicole Tritter (Toronto, Ont.) with the goal and both Hollstein and Vibert getting their second assists on the day.

The Tigers scored a late goal with only 15 seconds left in the third period with Brandi Frakie being credited with the goal.

Sophomore Brittany Wilson (Nepean, Ont.) came up with 36 saves. Wayne State outshot UConn by a 38-25 margin.

The Huskies are back on the ice Friday, November 3, when they travel to Ohio State for a 7 p.m. matchup.
