VERMONT SHUTOUT BY ST. CLOUD STATE, 6-0

BURLINGTON, Vt. – Freshman Holly Roberts scored a natural hat trick and added an assist to lead St. Cloud State to its second straight victory over the Vermont Catamounts, 6-0, in women’s hockey action at Gutterson Fieldhouse on Saturday night.

The Huskies took a 2-0 lead in the first period behind a pair of goals from senior Hailey Clarkson. Clarkson’s first tally came on the power play at 10:12 of the stanza. She followed that up with an even strength goal three minutes later.

Freshman Caitlin Hogan scored at the 15:19 mark of the second period for the Huskies’ lone tally and gave SCSU a 3-0 at the second intermission.

In the third period, Roberts scored all three goals for St. Cloud State. She put back her own rebound, going high to the glove side of Vermont goaltender Jenilee Roy (Sandown, N.H.) at the 4:02 mark. Roberts struck again at 9:07, finishing off a breakaway opportunity and then closed out the scoring at 10:04 with an unassisted tally from the left circle. Clarkson assisted on two of Roberts’ goals and finished the night with two goals and three assists. Hogan also had a strong night with a goal and two helpers.

The Huskies out shot Vermont 34-11 in the contest. Roy made 28 saves ithe Vermont net, while Lauri St. Jacques was credited with 11 stops to earn the shutout.

Vermont falls to 2-8-0 overall, while the Huskies improve to 5-6-1 on the season.

The Catamounts, who are in the midst of a nine-game homestand, host Northeastern on Saturday (Nov. 11) at 2:00pm and Boston University on Sunday (Nov. 12) at 4:00pm as they return to Hockey East action. Saturday is Vermont Faculty & Staff Appreciation Day, any UVM faculty or staff member can get in free to the game with their UVM ID. Several promotions are slated for Sunday: poster day, Rally’s round Up and Hockey East Kid’s Club Day and a chance to Skate with the Cats after the game.
