Brittany Wilson posts shutout with 29 saves

Brittany Wilson made 29 saves to post the shutout for UConn.

STORRS, Conn. (Oct. 12, 2007) - Junior Brittany Wilson (Nepean, Ont.) recorded her sixth shutout of her career as the University of Connecticut women's ice hockey team defeated the Minnesota State Mavericks, 2-0, on Friday night in the Mark Edward Freitas Ice Forum.

The Huskies jumped to an early lead in the first period as junior Nicole Tritter (Toronto, Ont.) found the back of the net less than three minutes into the game. The goal marked Tritter's 10th of her career as sophomore Dominique Thibault (L'Orignal, Ont.) and senior Jaclyn Hawkins (Manotick, Ont.) both received the assists.

At 19:55 in the first period, Hawkins scored her second goal of the season and her 57th of her career off a quick pass from sophomore Michelle Binning (Oshawa, Ont.), who received the puck from Thibault. Binning and Thibault both earned the assists.

Minnesota State out-shot the Huskies 29-27 throughout the game as the Huskies picked up their second win of the season.

Husky goaltender, Wilson recorded 29 saves in her first win of the season while Minnesota State's Britni Kehler recorded 25 in 57:20 played. Kehler picked up her first loss of the season.

The Huskies will face the Mavericks for a second game in this weekend series on Saturday, Oct. 13 in the Mark Edward Freitas Ice Forum. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m.
