Connecticut Battles Northeastern to 1-1 Overtime Final

Jennifer Chaisson recorded her 11th assist of the season

STORRS, Conn. - The University of Connecticut women's ice hockey team battled Hockey East opponent Northeastern University to a 1-1 overtime final on Friday night in the Mark Edward Freitas Ice Forum.

With the tie, UConn moves its record to 16-4-5 overall and 7-2-3 in Hockey East play. Northeastern goes to 5-15-3 on the year and 4-7-1 in the league after tonight's equal finish.

Northeastern took the first lead of the game with a goal by freshman Alyssa Wohlfeiler in the final seconds of play in the first period. Wohlefeiler's fifth goal of the season was assisted by Kristi Kehoe and Chelsey Jones.

After a scoreless second period, UConn was able to tie the game at one with a Samantha Reid (Innisfil, Ont.) goal, her fourth of the season. Senior co-captain Jaclyn Hawkins (Manotick, Ont.) sent the puck behind the net to freshman Jennifer Chaisson (Cumberland, Ont.), who relayed the pass to Reid for the Huskies' lone goal of the game. Hawkins picked up her team-leading 19th assist of the season while Chaisson recorded her 11th.

Hockey East ITECH Goaltender of the Month, Brittany Wilson (Nepean, Ont.) recorded 17 stops in goal while earning her fourth tie of the season. Northeastern's Leah Sulyma recorded 34 saves, including 15 in the third period of play, as her record improves to 5-12-3 on the year.

The UConn Huskies will return to action on Saturday as they travel to Boston, Mass. to face the Northeastern Huskies in the second game of the weekend series. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m.
