Brittany Wilson recorded her fifth shutout of the season.

STORRS, Conn. (February 9, 2008) - Junior Brittany Wilson (Nepean, Ont.) recorded her 10th career shutout and sixth of the season as the University of Connecticut women's ice hockey team blanked Providence College 3-0 in Hockey East action on Saturday afternoon in the Mark Edward Freitas Ice Forum.

Wilson recorded 21 saves in goal for the Huskies, while picking up her 12th win of the season.

With the victory, the Huskies improve to 18-4-5 overall and 9-2-3 in league play, while Providence falls to 12-12-3 on the year and 7-5-2 in the Hockey East.

UConn opened up the game's scoring late in the second period as senior co-captain Jaclyn Hawkins (Manotick, Ont.) received the puck behind the net and fired it past Providence goaltender, Danielle Ciarletta, at the 18:12 mark. Junior Samantha Reid (Innisfil, Ont.) made a pass behind the Friar defense to senior Britney Chandler (Pickering, Ont.) who found Hawkins for the first goal of the game.

The Huskies continued their offensive attack in the third period as Dominique Thibault (L'Orignal, Ont.) recorded her team-leading 18th goal of the season off a pass from sophomore Amy Hollstein (Pembroke, Mass.). Hollstein scored a goal of her own 3:15 later, as she fired the puck into the top left corner of the net after breaking away from the Providence defense. Hollstein ended the game with a team-best two points.

Providence out-shot the Huskies 21-16, including a 14-6 second period battle. Ciarletta finished the game with 10 saves in 44:35 played. Jennifer Smith played the final 15:25 in goal for the Friars and ended the game with three saves.

The Huskies will travel to Providence, R.I. to finish out the weekend series with the Friars on Sunday afternoon. The game is set for 2:00 p.m. at the Schneider Arena.
