STORRS, Conn. (Nov. 11, 2007) - The No. 8/8 University of Connecticut women's ice hockey team defeated the University of Vermont 4-1 in Hockey East competition on Sunday afternoon in the Mark Edward Freitas Ice Forum.

The Huskies entered this afternoon's game coming off an 8-2 loss on Saturday to No. 1/1 New Hampshire in Durham, N.H. The number one team in the nation dominated play over the Huskies and kept UConn under its 3.2 goals per game average.

After a scoreless first period of today's game, the Huskies got on the board first as a shot by freshman Jody Sydor (St. Albert, Alta.) was kicked out of the crease by Vermont goaltender Kristen Olychuck (Kelowna, B.C.) then found the stick of sophomore Amy Hollstein (Pembroke, Mass.), who fired the rebound into the back of the net at 9:07 of the second period.

Vermont was able to tie the game at one with a goal by Celeste Doucet, off a pass from teammate Saleah Morrison, at the 12:28 mark in the second period of play.

With 17:11 left in the second, Nicole Tritter (Toronto, Ont.) fired a shot past Olychuck to give the Huskies a 2-1 lead. Senior Liz Gallinaro (Amherst, Mass.) sent a pass to Tritter in front of the net to put the Huskies ahead going into the third and final period.

UConn added two more goals in the third period while freshman Jennifer Chaisson (Cumberland, Ont.) connected for her second goal of the year by tipping in the puck off a pass from Hollstein and Gallinaro.

Sophomore and Husky scoring leader, Dominique Thibault (L'Orignal, Ont.) fired a shot into the back of the net at the 14:54 mark to earn her 11th goal of the season. Senior co-captain Jaclyn Hawkins (Manotick, Ont.) posted her 11th assist of the season with Thibault's goal and recorded the 59th assist of her career.

Jennie Bellonio (Guilford, Conn.) played all 60:00 minutes for the Huskies in goal, while posting 10 saves on the afternoon. Olychuck recorded 24 saves for the Catamounts as UConn out-shot Vermont 28-11.

UConn will return to action on Nov. 16 as they travel to Maine for a 4:00 p.m. Hockey East match-up.
