Danielle Ciarletta made 27 saves for Providence

Providence, R.I. - The Providence College women's ice hockey team was defeated by the No. 9 Big Green of Dartmouth College, 2-1. Providence's Jean O'Neill (Strafford, Pa.) tied the game at 1-1 in the first period, but Dartmouth was able to score a power-play goal in the third to win the game. Providence is now 2-4-2 (2-2-1 HOCKEY EAST) on the season, while Dartmouth moves to 4-0-1 (2-0-0 ECAC).

Dartmouth opened the scoring at 2:18 of the first period when Jenna Cunningham beat PC's Danielle Ciarletta (Blaine, Minn.) after the Big Green's Maggie Kennedy won an offensive zone face-off. Kennedy was credited with an assist on the play. PC was able to tie the game at 1-1 at 9:11 of the first when O'Neill scored her second goal of the season, as she tipped in a shot from Erin Normore (Cambridge, Ont.), who assisted on the goal.

Much of the second period was dominated by the Friars, as they out shot Dartmouth 17-13 in the stanza, but the Friars were unable to beat Big Green goaltender Carli Clemis again. In the third period Dartmouth pulled ahead while on the power-play. Julia Bronson gathered a loose puck at the top of the circles and shot it past a screened Ciarletta for the game-winner. Ciarletta finished with 27 saves for the Friars, while Clemis made 35 stops for the Big Green.

The Friars return to action next weekend as they travel to Ohio for a two game series with the Buckeyes of Ohio State. The first game will be played at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, November 16, while the second game will be played on November 17 at 4:00 p.m. Both games will be played at the OSU Ice Rink in Columbus, Ohio.
