Senior forward Lindsey Cashman scored a shorthanded goal for Vermont

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - Vermont scored three unanswered goals to come from behind and defeat Union College 3-1 Sunday afternoon at Messa Rink.

Union opened the scoring when Lauren Cromartie collected a rebound and beat Vermont sophomore goaltender Kelci Lanthier at the 15:10 mark of the first period. Jeannie Sabourin was credited with the lone assist on the play.

Vermont responded just over a minute later on the power play. Senior Teddy Fortin fed a cross-crease pass to Junior Kailey Nash who put the puck past Union goaltender Kate Gallagher (14 saves) to even the game at one apiece. Senior Saleah Morrision was credited with the second assist on Nash's second goal of the season at the 16:21 mark of the first period.

Senior Lindsey Cashman scored her second goal of the season short-handed at the 15:11 mark of the second period to give the Catamounts their first lead of the game.

Sophomore Erin Wente gave Vermont a two-goal lead on a breakaway midway through the third period. Her team leading seventh goal of the season was unassisted at 9:59 of the final frame.

Lanthier made 30 saves as Vermont held its lead in the third period to seal its third straight win. With the win the Catamounts swept their first weekend series since October 2009.

The Catamounts three-game win streak is their longest since opening the 2007-08 season with four straight wins.

Vermont improves to 4-8-8 on the season, while the Dutchwomen fall to 1-16-3 overall.

Vermont hosts No. 8 North Dakota on Friday (Jan. 7) at 7 p.m. as they return to action at Gutterson Fieldhouse.
