Senior defenseman Peggy Wakeham had a power-play goal for the Catamounts

BURLINGTON,Vt. - Senior Peggy Wakeham (Bay Roberts, Newfoundland) scored her second goal of the season and sophomore Kelci Lanthier (Mt. Airy, Md.) made 23 saves as Vermont earned a 1-1 tie against the Yale Bulldogs at Gutterson Fieldhouse on Saturday afternoon.

Lanthier and Yale's Genny Ladiges were perfect through two periods as the teams played to a scoreless tie.

Vermont opened the scoring on the power-play 34 seconds into the third period Kailey Nash (Middletown, R.I.) passed across the blue line to Wakeham who released a quick wrist shot from the left point. Kellie Dineen (Faribault, Minn.) screened Ladiges and the puck slipped in on the blocker side. Celeste Doucet (Memramcook, New Brunswick) was credited with the second assist on the play.

The Bulldogs scored the equalizer at the 15:41 mark of the third period. Patricia McGauley took possession off the faceoff and quickly released a snap-shot that hit Lanthier high on her right shoulder and bounced above her head, falling into the net.

Neither team was able to score the go-ahead goal in the final four minutes of regulation

The best scoring opportunity of the extra session was when Yale's Aleca Hughes walked in on Lanthier and rang a shot off the post 30 seconds into the overtime frame. However neither team could get another goal as Lanthier and Ladiges (31 saves) preserved the tie for their respective teams.

With the tie Vermont moves to 1-2-3 overall and Yale improves to 0-1-1.

The Catamounts return to action next weekend as they travel to face Northeastern in a two-game Hockey East set in Boston, Mass.
