Chestnut Hill, Mass. -Junior Dru Burns registered a career-high four points (1g, 3a), scoring the first goal of her career, and sophomore Taylor Wasylk racked up her second three-point performance of the season as the No. 4 Boston College women's ice hockey team defeated Princeton, 6-1, on Friday afternoon on Kelley Rink.
Junior goalkeeper Corinne Boyles (9-4-1) made 27 saves to earn the win and help the Eagles improve to 9-4-1 on the year. Princeton net-minder Rachel Weber (4-5-1) stopped 40 shots as the Tigers fell to 4-6-1.
The Eagles opened the skate with something they had not done all season, score three goals in the first period. Wasylk ignited the scoring at 7:50, when passes from Burns and classmate Melissa Bizzari found the forward coming through the right circle.
Sophomore defenseman Jackie Young kicked-off BC's 4-for-6 night on power plays at 17:20 in the first. From deep in the offensive zone, freshman forward Alex Carpenter sent the puck out to Burns at the top of the near circle. The defensemen dished the puck to far point and Young one-timed a shot for theher third goal of the year.
Less than a minute later, freshman right-wing Kate Leary and sophomore defenseman Meagan Mangene helped Wasylk on her second goal of the afternoon for a 3-0 lead heading into the first intermission.
BC was called for checking shortly into the second stanza and Princeton capitalized on the one-man advantage just 47 seconds later to get on the board, 3-1, 1:14. The Eagles had sent the puck into the Tigers' zone, where Paula Romanchuk gathered it and sent it to Julie Johnson on the right side. Johnson moved up ice and quickly attacked the goal, finding Heather Landry who was moving through the slot and waiting for the pass.
Senior forward Danielle Welch and Burn connected with freshman forward Emily Field to answer back in under a minute and tally BC's second power play goal.
Up 4-1, a hooking call gave Boston College another one-man advantage at 19:13. BC continued to pressure Weber and as the horn sounded, Burns lit the lights for the first time in the Maroon and Gold. Fields and Welch tallied their second points of the day with assists.
Following a tripping call on the Tigers at 7:49, junior defenseman Blake Bolden executed a give-and-go with senior center Mary Restuccia down the left side, for Bolden's third score of the year and 6-1 lead. The goal gave Bolden 15 in her career, tying Maggie Taverna '09 for third most ever my an Eagles defender, and was Restuccia's 56th assist, eighth most in BC history
