Junior defenseman Maude Blain scored a goal for the Huskies

CANTON, N.Y. - The University of Connecticut women's ice hockey team fell at St. Lawrence, 4-1, Saturday afternoon. The loss dropped the Huskies to 0-2-1 on the year, while the Saints lifted their record to 2-0-0.

SLU took the lead late in the first period with a goal by Brook Fernandez at the 16:17 mark. In the second period, the Saints extended the lead to 3-0 with goals by Karell Emard and Rylee Smith.

UConn netted its only goal of the contest at the 13:26 point of the third period. Freshman forward Rachel Farrel (Cheshire, Conn.) connected with junior defender Maude Blain (Magog, Que.) for a power play goal.

St. Lawrence went on to add one more goal as Emard posted her second score, this one coming on an empty net.

In net for the Saints, Caitlyn Lahonen made 18 saves to earn the win, while sophomore Nicole Paniccia (Oakville, Ont.) made 28 for the Huskies.

Connecticut gets back on the ice tomorrow with a 1:00 pm contest down the road from St. Lawrence as it takes on Clarkson.
