STORRS, Conn. - The University of Connecticut women's ice hockey team ended a six-game losing streak with a 3-0 Hockey East victory over the University of Vermont on Sunday afternoon. The Huskies lifted their record to 2-11-2 overall and 2-5-0 in league play, while the Catamounts fell to 2-8-4 and 2-5-0.

Sophomore goaltender Nicole Paniccia (Oakville, Ont.) earned her second shutout of the season by stopping 28 shots, including 12 in the second period. Both Connecticut wins have been 3-0 shutouts for Paniccia.

Senior defenseman Sami Evelyn (Nepean, Ont.) brought the puck up the center of the ice a put a shot wide off the side of the net. Sophomore forward Jenna Welch (Austin, Texas) found the lose puck and put a shot into the back of the net for her first goal of the season, giving UConn a 1-0 lead.

In the third period, Connecticut added two more goals. Sophomore Jocelyn Slattery (Hugo, Minn.) set up the first career goal for freshman linemate Kayla Campero (Wallingford, Conn.), 2:37 into the frame. Freshman Emily Snodgrass (Eagan, Minn.) also assisted on the goal as the tipped the centering feed from Slattery to Campero in the slot.

With less than three minutes to play, red-shirt sophomore defenseman Maggie Walsh (Bloomfield, Conn.), a former UVM Catamount, netted her first career goal for the Huskies. Junior forward Kelly Horan (Methuen, Mass.) played a pass to Evelyn in the slot whose pass was deflected to Walsh for the goal.

Vermont outshot Connecticut 28-22 for the game. The Huskies went 1-3 on the power play and held the Catamounts to 0-3.

Sophomore netminder Roxanne Douville made 19 saves in net for UVM.

UConn returns to action when it hosts the annual Nutmeg Classic at the Freitas Ice Forum next Friday and Saturday. The Huskies get the classic underway with a 4:00 pm game against in-state rival Quinnipiac.
