Chestnut Hill, Mass. - Alex Carpenter's five points, including her second hat trick of the season was more than enough as the #3 women's hockey team (19-4-2, 12-2-1 WHEA) blanked the Connecticut Huskies 8-0 Sunday afternoon.

Megan Miller (4-2-2) got her second straight start for the Eagles and made 14 saves en route to her first career shutout. Elaine Chuli made 36 saves for the Huskies in the loss to fall to 1-13-2.

Six Eagles recorded multi-point games as the eight goal total was the second highest offensive output this season (10, vs. Maine on 12/1/12).

Melissa Bizzari notched her 10th of the season on a goal-mouth scramble at 5:43 to put BC up 1-0. BC then exploded for three goals in the span of 1:03 midway through the first period. Alex Carpenter netted her 19th of the season, Ashley Motherwell (10) redirected an Emily Field feed in the slot, and Field (11) jammed home a loose puck at 13:49 to give the Eagles a 4-0 lead after one period. Shots on goal after 20 minutes were 15-3 in favor of BC.

The teams played an even second period as Huskies goaltender Elaine Chuli and Megan Miller both held the teams scoreless in the middle stanza. BC's best bid in the period came off the stick of Dana Trivigno but she found the crossbar with her wrist shot from the top of the right circle. Shots on goal after two periods were 27-11 in favor of the Eagles.

The Eagles put the game out of reach in the third period with four goals, including two on the power play. Carpenter took a turnover and went top corner on Chuli to put the Eagles up 5-0. Taylor Wasylk (6) notched a goal on the power play at 13:08 and Carpenter completed the hat trick with the man advantage at 15:23. Bizzari capped the scoring at 17:46 with her 11th goal of the season.

Sunday marked the 7th Annual Skating Strides Against Breast Cancer game. The program has raised nearly $200,000 for various breast cancer charities, including a record $45,215 total in 2012.
