Providence, R.I. - The Providence College women's ice hockey team registered a 5-2 loss against No. 2 Boston College on Tuesday, Feb. 19 at Schneider Arena. With the loss, the Friars record moves to 14-13-5 overall and 8-8-3 in Hockey East play.

Boston College forward Alex Carpenter broke the scoreless tie with 1:49 left to play in the first period. Carpenter found the loose puck right in the crease and put it past Providence freshman goaltender Sarah Bryant (Bethlehem, Pa.).

The Eagles extended their lead to 2-0 at 3:53 of the second period when Emily Field stole the puck in the Friars offensive zone and fired a shot that beat Bryant. Field's unassisted goal came while the Eagles were killing a penalty.

Providence quickly responded to cut Boston College's lead in half. Sophomore Beth Hanrahan (Poolesville, Md.) tallied the first goal of the game for the Friars when she scored a power-play goal at 4:25 of the second period. Hanrahan's goal came as the result off a scrum in front of Eagles goaltender Corinne Boyles, where Hanrahan finally jammed the puck into the net after a play that was started by classmates Brooke Simpson (Boxboro, Mass.) and Victoria Virtue (Walpole, Mass.). With the goal, Hanrahan extended her point streak to 8 games.

Carpenter scored her second goal of the game to restore a two goal lead for Boston College at 12:36 of the second period.

Senior Nicole Anderson (Jordan, Minn.) tallied her 17th goal of the season at 16:24 of the second period to get the Friars within one on the scoreboard. Junior Rebecca Morse (Westfield, N.J.) fed a pass to freshman Brittney Thunstrom (Coon Rapids, Minn.) who skated into the offensive zone and fired a long shot on Boyles. Anderson capitalized on the rebound, putting the puck into a wide open net to make the score 3-2.

Boston College added two goals in the final period to seal the win including a goal by Carpenter 35 seconds into the third period to complete her hat trick as well as a goal from Dana Trivigno at 9:46 of the frame.

Bryant finished the game with 29 saves for the Friars while Boston College goaltender Boyles stopped 26 shots. The Eagles outshot the Friars, 34-28, in the game.

The Friars wrap up their regular season with a home-and-home series against Northeastern on Saturday, Feb. 23 and Sunday, Feb. 24. Saturday's game will be held at Schneider Arena at 7:00p.m., while Sunday's game will take place at 4:00p.m. at Matthews Arena in Boston, Mass.
