Junior defenseman Kelly McDonald had a goal and an assist for the Black Bears

Providence, R.I. - The University of Maine women's ice hockey team took a 4-2 win over Brown University on Saturday afternoon at the Meehan Auditorium in Providence, Rhode Island. Kelly McDonald (Ancaster, Ontario) notched the third goal of the game for the Black Bears at 3:59 of the third period for the game-winner. Maine improves to 3-14-1 on the season while Brown falls to 2-9-1 with the loss.

Maine took a 1-0 lead at 9:36 of the second period on the short-handed try after Brianne Kilgour (Hamilton, Ontario) netted the puck for her third goal of the season. Brittany Dougherty (Chesterfield, Michigan) picked up her tenth assist while Brooklyn Langlois (Steinbach, Manitoba) registered her second of the season.

Shawna Lesperance (Belle River, Ontario) gave the Black Bears the 2-0 lead at 13:14 of the second period off the unassisted even strength goal. This marks the second goal of the season for Lesperance.

The Brown Bears wasted little time as Sarah Robson notched a goal just 16 seconds into the third period off the Victoria Smith and Samantha Woodward assist.

McDonald gave the Black Bears the 3-1 lead at 3:59 of the third for her first goal of the 2012-13 season on the even strength score. Kilgour registered her third assist of the season on Maine's third goal of the game.

Katy Massey (Waterville, Maine) picked up her third goal of the season 24 seconds later for the 4-1 lead. Jillian Langtry (Fort Frances, Ontario) notched her first assist as a Black Bear while McDonald picked up her second of the season.

Brittany Moorehead brought the score to 4-2 at 12:12 of the third period. Kelly Micholson and Kaitlyn Keon picked up the assist on the goal.

Brittany Ott (St. Clair Shores, Michigan) anchored the Black Bears between the pipes as she allowed two goals while registering 36 saves. Ott sees her record improve to 3-8-1 on the season.

Aubree Moore got the start for Brown University, allowing four goals while notching 21 saves.

The Black Bears return to action tomorrow afternoon for game two against Brown University, puck is slated to drop at 2:00 PM. Maine returns home on January 12 and 13 as it hosts Boston University for conference action. Game time is slated for 3:00 PM in both contests.
