HAMILTON, N.Y. - The University of Connecticut women's hockey team dropped a non-conference contest to Colgate, 4-1, on the road Saturday afternoon. The loss moved the Huskies to 0-4-1 on the season, while the Raiders improved to 2-4-0 after a weekend sweep.
For the second straight day, the two teams played to a scoreless draw in the first period. Colgate broke through with a pair of scores in the second by Taylor Volpe and Katelyn Parker.
The Raiders added to their lead in the third when Jocelyn Simpson found the back of the net. UConn broke into the scoring column at the 10:57 mark on a power play goal by sophomore Sarah MacDonnell (Quispamsis, Que.). Assisting on MacDonnell's second of the year were junior Kiana Nauheim (Fairbanks, Alaska) and sophomore Emily Snodgrass (Eagan. Minn.).
Colgate added an empty-netter with less than two minutes to play as it was Simpson for her second of the day.
The Huskies were unable to mount a comeback despite outshooting the Raiders, 17-5, in the final stanza. For the game, Connecticut held a 36-29 edge in shots.
Freshman Elaine Chuli (Waterford, Ont.) made 25 stops for the Huskies, while Ashlynne Rando came up with 35 saves for the Raiders.
The Huskies return to action at Maine for a pair of games on October 20 and 21.
