Sophomore forward Meghan Huertas scored two goals for the Catamounts

STORRS, Conn. - The University of Connecticut women's ice hockey team was shutout by Hockey East rival Vermont, 3-0, Saturday afternoon. All three Catamount goals came in the second period.

After a scoreless first period, Erin Wente scored at the 3:01 mark of the second for UVM (4-9-2, 3-3-2 Hockey East). Later in the period, Meghan Huertas added a pair of goal, both before the 10-minute mark.

Despite being outscored 3-0 in the period, UConn (2-23-2, 1-6-0 Hockey East) outshot Vermont, 15-10.

Roxanne Douville earned the shutout for the Catamounts with 36 saves, while freshman Elaine Chuli (Waterford, Ont.) stopped 28 in the loss for the Huskies.

Connecticut and Vermont return to the ice tomorrow at 1:00 pm for a re-match to close out the fall semester.
