Senior goaltender Kelci Lanthier stopped 31 shots for the Catamounts

BURLINGTON, Vt- Kelci Lanthier made 31 saves to lead the Vermont Catamounts to a 1-0 win over the McGill Martlets in an exhibition tilt Wednesday night at Gutterson Fieldhouse. The Catamounts opened the scoring 4:53 into the first period on the power play. A Dayna Colang point shot was deflected in front by Vermont forward Brittany Zuback. McGill netminder Taylor Hough made the initial save but Erin Wente buried the rebound to give Vermont an early lead. From there on out the goaltenders stole the show. Even through a pair of extended five-on-three power plays for both teams Lanthier and Hough were equal to the task. Lanthier who was named the first star, picked up her first shutout as a Catamount. Hough made 14 saves for the Martlets in her third start of the season. "We really focused on playing smart and defending well," said head coach Jim Plumer. "Tonight to get the shutout against a good team was a good boost to our confidence as we get a little break this weekend." Vermont returns to action next Wednesday (7 p.m.) as they face RPI in a non-conference game at Gutterson Fieldhouse.
