Sophomore forward Haley Skarupa scored two goals for the Eagles

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Sophomore Haley Skarupa scored two goals and had one assist and freshman Andie Anastos notched a goal and an assist of her own as No. 2 Boston College defeated Maine Sunday night at Kelley Rink 5-1.

Anastos gave the Eagles a 1-0 lead in the first period with her first collegiate goal. The forward from Rockville, Md. picked up her own rebound and flipped the puck over the pads of Maine goaltender Meghann Treacy for the opening score.

Freshman Kristyn Capizzano doubled the lead at 17:06 of the first period when she poked in a loose puck at the goal mouth that had been fired in by Lexi Bender. The goal marked Capizzano's first as an Eagle.

At 16:18 of the second period, Skarupa skated with the puck from circle to circle and lifted a wrister into the top of the net to give BC a 3-0 lead. Maine pulled within two at 5:15 of the final frame when Brianne Kilgour took advantage of a two-on-one and beat Eagles netminder Corinne Boyles to make the score 3-1.

The Eagles scored the final two goal of the game, with a power play goal from freshman Haley McLean and a shorthanded breakaway by Skarupa, her second of the game.

Boyles stopped 18 of 19 shots and improves to 1-0-0. Treacy made 39 saves and allowed five goals. She falls to 0-1-0.

The Eagles return to action Friday as they face St. Lawrence at home at 5:00 p.m.
