MAINE FALLS TO QUINNIPIAC IN SATURDAY REMATCH, 5-2

Junior forward Jennifer More had two assists for the Black Bears

ORONO, Maine - Freshman forward Karissa Kirkup registered her first two collegiate goals but Maine fell to Quinnipiac, 5-2, in a Saturday matinee at Alfond Arena.

The first period ended with the Bobcats having a 1-0 lead over the Black Bears after senior Kelly Babstock scored off a pass from freshman Emma Woods in front of the net at 4:29.

Quinnipiac scored early in the second as Babstock and Woods teamed up again to put one by Maine goalie, Meghann Treacy (Lake Peekville, N.Y.) at 16 seconds.

The Bobcats struck again when sophomore Nicole Brown found Amanda Colin in front of the net and knocked the puck in at 2:54. A few minutes later Nicole Brown passed it to Kelly Babstock who put one in the back of the net at 4:17.

The Black Bears put in freshman goalie Mariah Fujimagari (Markham, Ontario) for her first regular season appearance.

The Bobcats struck again when sophomore Lindsey West put a hard slap shot by Maine goalie on a pass back from Nicole Brown at 16:58.

The Black Bears put one in the net when freshman Karissa Kirkup (Virden, Manitoba) skated by the defense and knocked the puck in on a pass from sophomore Abbey Cook (Fairport, N.Y.) at 17:52. The second period ended with Quinnipiac up 5-1.

Kirkup wasn't done, she came back with a second goal in the third when she put the puck by Quinnipiac goalie Sydney Rossman on a pass from Jennifer More (Deloraine,Manitoba) leaving the final score 5-2.

Quinnipiac goalie Chelsea Laden made 8 saves in (40:00) and improves to 5-0-1 Rossman saved 1 shot in (20:00).

Maine goalie Meghann Treacy made 12 saves in (24:17) and falls to 0-3-1. Fujimagari stopped 11 shots in (35:43).

The Bobcats out shot the Black Bears 28-11.

Maine falls to a 0-3-1 record and Quinnipiac improves to 5-0-1.

The Black Bears travel to take on Mercyhurst Friday October 25th at 7pm.
