ORONO, Maine- The University of Maine women's ice hockey team fell to Vermont 4-1 on Saturday afternoon. Sophomore Audra Richards (Maplewood, Minn.) scored Maine's lone goal.
Vermont struck early when Amanda Pelkey scored on a pass from Breanne Sundquist at 13:23 in the first period.
The Catamounts topped off the first period with another goal at 16:36 when Rachael Ade put the puck in the net on a pass from Sarah Campbell making it a 2-0 lead.
Vermont outshot Maine 10-2 in the first period.
The Black Bears got their only goal of the game at 8:27 on a power play when Kristin Gilmour (Millgrove, Ontario) passed it up to Richards who knocked the puck in the net to cut the lead to 2-1.
Vermont came out hot in the third period scoring two goals. Victoria Andreakos put the puck by Maine goalie Meghann Treacy (Lake Peekskill, N.Y.) at 13:47 in the third.
Vermont's Amanda Pelkey scored her second goal of the game after Maine had pulled Treacy at 18:44.
Vermont outshot Maine 28 to 14.
Treacy made 24 saves while Vermont goalie Roxanne Douville stopped 13.
Maine falls to a 0-8-3 on the season and Vermont improves to 4-6-2.
The Black Bears continue their season with another game against Vermont Sunday at 2pm.
