Junior forward Brittany Zuback had a goal and two assists for the Catamounts

ORONO, Maine- The University of Maine women's ice hockey team lost 5-1 to Vermont on Sunday at Alfond Arena. Freshman Eve Boissonneault(Sudbury, Ontario) scored her first goal of the season and Maine's lone goal.

The Black Bears defense held the Catamounts scoreless in the first period, Vermount fought off six Maine shots to keep them scoreless ending the first period 0-0.

Vermont fired 11 shots at the Black Bears in the first period.

Vermont put a goal on the board early in the second period when Dayna Colang scored on a pass from Victoria Andreakos at :47 in the second period.

Brittany Zuback increased Vermonts lead when she put the puck in the net at 14:20 in the second period with an assist from Kellie Dineen.

Vermont hit a hot streak in the third period scoring three goals. The first was at 11:50 in the third when Andreakos got her second goal of the night on a power play with an assist from Zuback.

The Black Bear fought to cut the lead at 13:00 in the third on a power play when Katy Massey (Waterville, Maine) passed it to Kayla Kaluzny (Calgary, Alberta) who found Boissonneault in front of the net to knock the puck in making it a 3-1 game.

Vermont answered at 18:59 in the third when Breanne Sundquist put the puck in the net after Maine had pulled goalie Meghann Treacy (Lake Peekskill N.Y.).

The Catamounts scored with just seconds remaining in the game as Delia McNally put one by Treacy at 19:25 on a pass from Danielle Rancourt. Vermont outshot Maine 33-21.

Maine falls to a 0-9-3 in the season and Vermont improves to 5-6-2.

Treacy recorded 28 saves for Maine while Vermont goalie Roxanne Douville stopped 20.

The Black Bears travel to Providence for a two games series on November 23rd and 24th. The puck drops at 2:00pm.
