PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College women's ice hockey team was defeated in an exhibition game against the Boston Blades (CWHL), 3-1, on Saturday afternoon at Schneider Arena. Senior Beth Hanrahan (Poolesville, Md.) scored for the Friars in the second period. Former Friars Genevieve Lacasse '12, Ashley Cottrell '12 and Corinne Buie '14 skated in the game for the Blades.

The first period remained scoreless up until the 14:48 mark when Cottrell scored to give the Boston Blades a 1-0 lead. Shortly after the Blades notched two more goals, both from Casey Pickett, at 16:58 and 19:49. The Friars killed both penalties against them in the period.

Providence got on the board in the second with a goal from Hanrahan at 15:00. She was assisted by senior Brooke Simpson (Boxborough, Mass.). Junior Sarah Bryant (Bethlehem, Pa.) took over in net and recorded 18 saves in the frame.

The third period went without a goal from either team as Bryant turned away 19 shots for the Friars.

For the game Bryant finished with 37 saves. Junior Allie Morse (Cottage Grove, Minn.) tallied 14 saves in the first period.

Lacasse saved nine shots in net for the Blades.

The Friars will next travel to Troy, N.Y. to play RPI in a non-conference match-up on Jan. 6. The game will start at 4:00 p.m.
