Chestnut Hill, Mass. - No. 3 Boston College completed a two-game sweep of No. 5 Cornell at Kelley Rink Saturday afternoon, defeating the Big Red, 6-2. BC improves to 5-0-1 and remains undefeated after hosting Cornell. The last time the Eagles swept a series at home was against Hockey East opponent Vermont on Jan. 17 and Jan.18 last season.

The Eagles maintained possession in Cornell's zone throughout the opening frame. Freshman forward Kenzie Kent scored first for the Eagles off of junior Haley Skarupa's pass in a two-on-one situation in the fourth minute.

With ten minutes remaining in the first period, Cornell's Morgan Richardson was sent off the ice for checking to give the Eagles their first power play. Boston College capitalized on the man advantage and sophomore Andie Anastos scored her second goal of the season through a screen of bodies in front of the net.

The Big Red narrowed BC's lead with 11 seconds left in the period. Cornell broke away in transition and Emily Fulton beat freshman goaltender Katie Burt in the upper left corner to send Boston College into the first intermission with a 2-1 lead.

The Eagles dominated in the second period, tallying 15 shots on Big Red goaltender Paula Voorheis. Senior forward Kate Leary led the way with plenty of scoring opportunities. After a wraparound chance by junior Dana Trivigno, Leary found the puck in a scrum in front of the net and scored to put the Eagles up, 3-1.

Four minutes into the third period, Haley Skarupa, assisted by Alex Carpenter and Kenzie Kent, increased the Eagles' lead to 4-1 with her fifth goal of the season.

With nine minutes left in the game, Skarupa went on a short-handed breakaway which was saved by Voorheis. Alex Carpenter followed up on Skarupa's rebound to notch her team-leading sixth goal of the season and put BC up, 5-1.

Kate Leary added on another for her second goal of the game and third of the series with a diving breakaway goal at 5:32 to extend the BC lead to 6-1.

A Cornell short-handed goal with four minutes remaining snuck in past Katie Burt to bring the game to a close with a final score of 6-2.

With one goal and two assists against the Big Red Saturday, Alex Carpenter has tallied at least one assist in every game this season and extends her point streak to six games.

The Eagles outshot Cornell 38-24 and freshman goaltender Katie Burt recorded a season-high 22 saves to keep the Big Red offense in check.
