Chestnut Hill, Mass. - No. 1 Boston College women's hockey (23-0-1, 15-0-0 WHEA) defeated No. 3/4 Quinnipiac (20-3-3, 11-1-2 ECAC) Saturday afternoon at Kelley Rink to extend its unbeaten streak to 24 games. The Eagles, powered by goals from Alex Carpenter and Haley Skarupa, edged QU, 2-1, to hand the Bobcats just their third loss of the season.

Quinnipiac dictated the tempo to start the first period, not allowing a shot on goal for over six minutes. After being pinned in their zone for the majority of the opening frame, the Eagles found some offense late in the first.

Haley Skarupa maneuvered the puck away from traffic in front of the Bobcats' net to find Alex Carpenter at the post. Carpenter put BC up, 1-0, on a top shelf stick side goal to close out the period.

The Eagles found their rhythm in the second period, peppering Quinnipiac goaltender Chelsea Laden with 17 shots.

Five minutes into the middle stanza, Andie Anastos carried the puck behind the net on a break and dished it to Skarupa, who lit the lamp to increase BC's lead to 2-0.

Boston College took its two-goal lead and a 21-11 shot advantage into the second intermission.

The third period saw back and forth play between BC and Quinnipiac. Junior forward Nicole Connery gave the Bobcats life with under three minutes to play, bodying the puck past Katie Burt to threaten the Eagles' lead.

QU pulled goaltender Chelsea Laden with 1:20 on the clock for a man advantage, but Boston College held on to bring a final of 2-1 into its win column.

Notes:

- Freshman goaltender Katie Burt made 18 saves, while QU's Chelsea Laden stopped 28 pucks

- Alex Carpenter continues her point streak, having tallied points in all 22 games she has played

- The Eagles have extended their winning streak to 21 games with their win over the Bobcats

- This is BC's third win against a top-ten team this season: 10-2 vs. #7 Harvard (Nov. 28), 4-3 vs. #4 Boston University (Jan. 7), 2-1 vs. #3/4 Quinnipiac (Jan. 24)

- This is just the third one-goal victory of the season for the Eagles

The first-ranked Boston College Eagles are back in action at Kelley Rink on Monday, Jan. 26 to host Princeton at 7 p.m.
