Canton, N.Y. - No. 3 Boston College women's hockey defeated St. Lawrence Friday night, 2-1, on its first road trip of the season at Appleton Arena. The Eagles move to 2-0 heading into their second game against the Saints tomorrow at 2 p.m.

BC controlled possession in the Saints' zone throughout the first period. Junior forward Alex Carpenter led the attack with four shots on St. Lawrence goaltender Carmen Macdonald. Freshman defenseman Kali Flanagan added to the offensive pressure with three chances in the first. The Eagles went on the power play twice and peppered the Saints' Macdonald with 18 shots, but the teams headed into the second period even at zero goals apiece.

In the second period, Boston College maintained control of the puck. The Eagles fired an additional 14 shots against St. Lawrence, and Saints' goaltender Carmen Macdonald made 13 saves, killing two of the Eagles' three second period power plays.

A body checking penalty against St. Lawrence late in the second frame sent BC on its fifth power play of the game. Junior forward Haley Skarupa carried the puck into the Saints' zone and centered it for junior forward Alex Carpenter, who netted her third goal of the season to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead heading into the third.

Boston College faced some pressure from St. Lawrence to start the third period. The Saints tallied six shots in the first five minutes, but Eagle goaltender Katie Burt made saves on each chance.

The Eagles transitioned the puck out of their zone and in the sixth minute of the third frame, Alex Carpenter centered the puck for sophomore forward Kristyn Capizzano, who found the back of the net to increase the BC lead to 2-0. Capizzano now has two goals on the season.

The Saints answered Capizzano's goal less than four minutes later as Jenna Marks put one past Katie Burt to narrow the Boston College lead to 2-1. BC hung on to its one-goal lead as time expired to give the Eagles their second win of the season.

BC led the overall shot count, 43-19, and converted a goal on one of its seven power plays of the night. Goaltender Katie Burt recorded 18 saves to keep the Eagles in the game.

Boston College and St. Lawrence are back in action tomorrow, Oct. 11 at 2 p.m. at Appleton Arena.
