ORONO, Maine - The University of Maine Women's Ice Hockey team closed its home stand with a 2-2 tie against #7 Mercyhurst at Alfond Arena Saturday afternoon. Maine goes to 2-2-1 on the season, while Mercyhurst goes to 3-0-1.

Maine struck first with a goal at 14:30 in the first period. Anna Wright (North Berwick, Maine) passed the puck to Hailey Browne (Oakville, Ontario) who corralled it behind the net and fired a pass to Jennifer More (Deloraine, Manitoba). More ripped a shot past Mercyhurst's goalie, Amanda Makela, to take a 1-0 lead.

Mercyhurst answered back at 18:35 when Shelby Bram dumped the puck into the offensive zone to Molly Byrne who passed it to Emily Janiga. Janiga shot the puck past Maria Fujimagari (Markham, Ontario) to tie the score.

Maine broke the tie in the third period at 11:36 when More passed the puck to Audra Richards (Maplewood, Minnesota) who buried the puck in the back of the net. It was Richards's first goal on the short season.

Mercyhurst tied the game with a goal at 15:08. Emily Janiga scored her second goal of the game when Jenna Dingeldein fed her the puck at the top of the crease. Janiga beat Fujimagari to send the game into overtime.

Fujimagari and Makela kept the game scoreless throughout the overtime period. Fujimagari had 39 in the tie, while Makela had 16 saves for the Lakers. Maine was 0-2 on the power play, and Mercyhurst was 1-3.

Maine returns to action at Quinnipiac on Friday October 17th. Puck drop is scheduled for 3:00 pm.
