BURLINGTON, Vt. - Four different Catamounts scored as Vermont shutout Union College 4-0 during the second annual "Pack the Gut Challenge Presented by the Windjammer" in non-conference action Friday night.

Vermont got off to a quick start with the "Pack The Gut" crowd behind them. Amanda Pelkey scored her third goal of the season 19 seconds into the first period. Victoria Andreakos won a puck battle behind the net and centered a pass to Pelkey who fired a quick shot that fooled Union goaltender Shenae Lundberg.

Pelkey's goal was the fastest in program history to start a game. The previous record was held by Kellie Dineen. On February 2, 2013 she scored 38 seconds into a home game against New Hampshire.

After a scoreless second period the Catamounts were able to get a much-needed insurance tally early in the third. Kourtney Menches passed out to the point and Sarah Campbell directed a shot on net. Lundberg made the initial save but the rebound came out to Bella Webster who quickly fired it in for her first career goal. Menches also earned her first collegiate point on the goal at the 3:25 mark.

At the 9:59 mark of the third period Brittany Zuback extended the Vermont lead with a remarkable individual effort. She forced a turnover at the Union blue line, cut to the middle of the slot on her backhand and beat Lundberg with a quick backhand shot before any Dutchwomen defense could engage her.

Under two minutes later Dayna Colang rounded out the scoring with another play off the forecheck. Colang engaged a Union defender behind the net, stripped her off the puck, and quickly took it to the front of the net and stuffed it home for her third goal of the season.

Vermont goaltender Madison Litchfield had to make two key saves on a late Union power play to seal her second career shutout. In total she made 11 saves on the night.

Vermont and Union are back in action tomorrow afternoon with opening faceoff set for 2 p.m. at Gutterson Fieldhouse.
