Pittsburgh, Pa. - The Providence College women's hockey team was defeated by the Robert Morris Colonials, 4-1. The Colonials scored two power play goals and collected on a penalty shot to help them skate past the Friars. Providence moves to 6-13-0 and Robert Morris improves to 12-6-4.

Madison Myers (Colchester, Vt.) started in net for the Friars and made 29 saves.

The Colonials struck first on a power play goal from Jessica Gazzola with 14:04 to go in the first period.

The Friars answered with a power play goal of their own ten minutes later. After an offensive zone face off win, Cassidy Carels (Bruxelles, Manitoba) moved to the puck to Lexi Romanchuk (San Jose, Calif.) at the center point. Romanchuck's point shot found Christina Putigna (Grimsby, Ontario) in the slot, who snuck the puck past Robert Morris' Jessica Dodds. The Friars finished the first period with the score tied at one.

Myers made 15 saves in the second period as the two teams battled back and forth. The score remained tied at 1 until two seconds left in the period when Brittany Howard was awarded a penalty shot. She collected on the opportunity and the Colonials took a 2-1 lead heading into the third period.

Providence pressured for much of the third period but were unable to convert. Robert Morris notched its second power play goal of the day with 3:48 remaining in the game from Jessica Gazzola. With 1:27 left in regulation Robert Morris added its final mark of the game, with an empty net goal by Maeve Garvey.

The Friars are back in action at 2:00 p.m. on January 8 at Schneider Arena where they will host CHA Opponent RIT.
