HAMDEN, Conn. - Caitrin Lonergan scored a goal and added two assists as the No. 6 Boston College women's hockey team earned a 4-1 road win over No. 3 Quinnipiac on Saturday afternoon at the High Point Solutions Arena.

Makenna Newkirk recorded one goal and added an assist, while Andie Anastos and Grace Bizal both registered two assists in the win. Three of BC's goal came via special teams, including two power-play goals and one shorthanded strike.

BC took the series win the home-and-home set, finishing 1-0-1 on the weekend following Friday's 0-0 tie at Kelley Rink.

After a scoreless first period, the teams combined for three goals - and five penalties - to break a five-period goalless run in the series. Toni Ann Miano's goal put the Eagles on the board before Quinnipiac tied it up a minute and a half later. Newkirk's goal gave the Eagles' their last lead and sent the Eagles into the second intermission ahead 2-1, then Lonergan and Kent struck in the third period.

HOW IT HAPPENED

2nd, 5:28 | 1-0, BC GOAL (PPG) - Off the faceoff, Caitrin Lonergan collected the puck at the edge of the circle and threw it in front. Andie Anastos got to it in traffic and kicked it over to Lonergan below the line. She played a pass back across the slot where Miano streaked in and pushed a one-timer past Rossman for the series' first goal.

2nd, 6:54 | 1-1, QU GOAL (PPG) - Again right off a faceoff, the Bobcats worked the puck out and around to the point where Taryn Baumgardt launched a shot from the center point. The puck took a deflection in front and beat Katie Burt to bring the teams level at 1-1

2nd, 16:14 | 2-1, BC GOAL (PPG) - The Eagles worked the puck into the zone and Grace Bizal sent a pass lwide left of the next to Lonergan. She pushed it up near the top of the circle to Makenna Newkirk, who then skated in and launched a shot from the circle. Quinnipiac goaltender Sydney Rossman appeared to make the save as Anastos cut in front of her, but the puck trickled in under her to give the Eagles a 2-1 lead.

3rd, 9:23 | 3-1, BC GOAL (SHG) - While on the penalty kill, Bizal wrapped the puck down the left boards to clear the zone and Newkirk beat a Bobcat back into the Eagles' attacking end. Newkirk won the battle along the boards behind the net and Lonergan skated in unmarked, picked up the puck and cut across the crease, beating Rossman with a backhander.

3rd, 11:14 | 4-1, BC GOAL - Haley McLean pushed the puck up out of the zone to Anastos skating down the right wing. She skated into the zone and curled around the back of the net before sending a quick pass through the crease to Kenzie Kent on the far post for the open-net goal.

GAME NOTES

- The win improved the Eagles' all-time record against Quinnipiac to 11-4-4 ... BC also improved to 6-4-2 on the road in Hamden

- Caitrin Lonergan's three-point day marked her best outing to date in her collegiate career ... this was her second multi-point game of the season

- Lonergan's shorthanded goal was the Eagles' first since Alex Carpenter scored the team's fifth and final goal against Northeastern in the 2015 NCAA Tournament quarterfinals

- With her goal, Lonergan moved into a tie for the team lead in goals with five, matching fellow freshman Delaney Belinskas

- Toni Ann Miano scored her second goal of the season and the 14th goal of her career ... with the score, she moved into sole possession of sixth place on the Eagles' defenseman career goals chart ... she is now one goal back of fifth-place Maggie Taverna '09 who had 15 career goals

- Makenna Newkirk picked up her second multiple-point game of the season ... all of her points this season have come in multiple-point games

- Grace Bizal picked up her second multiple-point game of the season and her first multiple-assist game of the year ... she now has five assists on the season, and six points (1g, 5a)

- Andie Anastos picked up a pair of assists and upped her career scoring total to 106 points (43g, 62a) ... she is now 19 points back of 10th place on the Eagles' career scoring chart, currently held by Laura Traynham (125 pts.)

- BC's win over third-ranked Quinnipiac was a win over its highest-ranked opponent since defeated No. 3 Quinnipiac, 2-1, at Kelley Rink on Jan. 24, 20165

- Quinnipiac's second-period power-play goal snapped the Eagles' string of 31 straight penalties killed ... since Oct. 1, BC had killed every penalty it faced, including its first two today

- The Eagles scored two power-play goals, giving them four multiple-PPG games this season ... the team has 12 on the season now ... the Eagles have scored power-play goals in seven of eight games this season ... BC entered the game with the nation's top power-play conversion (29.4 percent).
