NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. - With the game tied at 2-2 heading into the third period, the Merrimack College women's ice hockey team saw Boston University net five goals in the final 20 minutes to roll past the Warriors by a score of 7-3 in the first of two games between the teams this weekend.

How It Happened
- Merrimack got on the board early in Friday's Hockey East matchup, capitalizing on its first power-play opportunity of the game to take the contest's first lead. After some nice puck cycling in the offensive zone on the man advantage, sophomore Paige Sorensen (Plymouth, Mass.) would end up with the puck at the point and fire a rocket of a slap shot at the goal. The shot would deflect off the leg of a Terrier defender and find the back of the net for the 1-0 Warrior lead less than eight minutes into the opening period.
- Boston University would promptly respond to Merrimack's game-opening goal, tying the game back up at 1-1 just 1:09 after the Warriors took the lead. Merrimack would then kill off a late-period penalty to avoid a deficit as the squads headed to the second knotted at one apiece.
- Less than one minute into the second period, the Terriers would nab their first lead of the game. After a Merrimack turnover behind its own net, Boston University would be gifted two point-blank shots on goal, with the rebound chance finding its way into the net for the 2-1 advantage.
- The Warriors would get another power play chance at the 14:00-mark of the second with a chance to tie the game back up at two. While Merrimack would not score during the power play, a shot from the point from Felila Manu (Anchorage, Alaska) just seconds after the power play expired would make its way through traffic and find the net to tie the game at 2-2 late in the period, where the score held heading to the third.
- The third period would quickly turn awry for Merrimack after heading into the frame tied, kicked off by a Terrier goal just 2:17 into the period for Boston University to retake a 3-2 lead. The Terriers would proceed to score four unanswered goals across the first 13:10 of the third, taking a 6-2 lead with 6:50 to play and essentially put the game out of reach.
- Sophomore Jessica Bonfe (Woodbury, Minn.) would net her eighth of the season at the 14:49 mark of the third to cut the deficit to 6-3 with just over five minutes remaining. Merrimack would give a last-ditch effort by pulling its goalie, but an empty-netter for the Terriers late in the third would put the game away.
Inside The Numbers
- Despite the 7-3 loss, sophomore goaltender Samantha Ridgewell (Outlook, Saskatchewan) made a season-high 43 saves in Friday night's game. It falls 12 short of her career-high of 55.
- Bonnie continues to improve on her career-high in goals and now is second on the team with eight goals on the season. She also moves into the team lead with 12 points on the year on eight goals and four assists.
