ORONO, Me. - University of Maine freshman netminder Carly Jackson made 27 saves to earn her first career shutout victory as the Black Bears defeated UConn, 1-0, in Saturday's Senior Day game at Alfond Arena.

Brooke Stacey netted the lone goal of the afternoon, her second of the weekend, to force a weekend split with the Huskies and pick up two key points for the Black Bears in the Hockey East standings.

The Black Bears held a 36-27 edge in shots as UConn's Annie Belanger also had a solid night between the pipes, making 35 stops.

Neither team could capitalize on the power play, with Maine finishing 0-for-5 and UConn going 0-for-4.

Stacey broke the scoreless tie with just 23-seconds remaining in the first period. The play began in front of the UConn bench where Stacey forced a turnover and sent a pass across ice to Emilie Brigham. Brigham and Stacey broke out across the blue line and into the UConn zone where Brigham would send the pass back to Stacey who buried a shot past Belanger's glove side.

The Black Bears thought they had another goal in the second period when Alyson Matteau's shot from the point flipped over Belanger and across the goal line. However, the goal was waved off due to goaltender interference.

Jackson and the defense played strong throughout while the Maine offense kept the pressure on. Jackson made 16 saves over the final 40-minutes to secure the 1-0 victory.

Maine closes the regular season Sunday, Feb. 19 when it travels to take on Boston University at 3 PM.
