ORONO, Maine - The Black Bears Women's Ice Hockey team kicked off their busy weekend against Merrimack in Alfond Arena where the Warriors routed Maine 5-1 in the Friday afternoon contest. The 3rd conference contest of the year for Maine, and the first for Merrimack, ended with Merrimack starting off 1-0-0 in conference while Maine falls to 0-3-0.

The Warriors got out in front early in the game as 8:17 into the first period Katelyn Rae scored a power play goal on Merrimack's first power play attempt to give them a 1-0 lead. It was then followed up by an even-strength goal 11:32 into the period from Jessica Bonfe to give Merrimack a 2-0 lead to end the first period.

Merrimack continued to dominate through the second period as Paige Voight scored a power play goal 6:37 into the second period to extend Merrimack's lead to 3-0. Maine would respond 10:20 into the period on their 2nd power play attempt of the game as Tereza Vanisova took a feed from Alyson Matteau and Ebba Strandberg for her 4th goal of the season as Maine cut the lead to 2 goals, 3-1 Merrimack.

Merrimack would answer back in the 2nd period however as Paige Voight scored her second of the game 14:50 into the second, and Jessica Bonfe followed up at 18:01 into the period with her second goal of the game to give Merrimack a 4 goal lead and the final score of 5-1.

Mariah Fujimagari gets the loss for Maine, she stopped 15 of 20 shots before being replaced by Carly Jackson in the 2nd. Carly would go on to stop all 6 shots she faced. Fujimagari now has a 1-1-0 record. Lea-Kristine Deme for Merrimack stopped 29 of Maine's 30 shots on goal, her record improves to 2-3-0.

The Black Bears are back in action Saturday evening in Auburn, Maine, as they face #5 Boston College at 7pm.
