ORONO, ME- The Women's Ice Hockey team came back to the Alfond Arena, strong, on Friday evening, as they took game number one of a two game series with the Northeastern University Huskies, who are currently #2 in Hockey East.

It took roughly half a period for the Black Bears to score, as Freshman Tereza Vanisova (11-9-20) took advantage of a power play opportunity and netted her 11th goal of the season. Assists came from Junior Kristin Gilmour (1-2-3) and Junior Brooke Stacey (7-6-13). Just before the period's end, Alyson Matteau (2-8-10) bought the team some insurance, scoring with 36 seconds left. Also a power play chance, assists came from Vanisova and Stacey. The period ended with 2-0 Maine lead.

The score remained the same until Stacey notched an empty net goal, 18:02 in to the third period. She was assisted by Senior Morgan Sakundiak (5-4-9). The Huskies managed to score one goal at the 18:47 mark, coming from Freshman Matti Hartman.

The game ended with a 3-1, Maine victory.

The two teams matchup, again, tomorrow afternoon, at 2pm, at Alfond Arena.
