ORONO, Maine - Despite early game penalty trouble, Women's Ice Hockey team pulled off a 2-1 victory over the Union College Dutchwomen, of Schenectady, New York.

The Black Bears bit early when Junior Catherine Tufts scored at 5:09 in to the first period. Assists on the goal came from Emilie Brigham and Nicole Arnold. They held off the Dutchwomen despite killing off three Union power plays in the period. Maine led after the first period 1-0.

Union's Jordi Naidrich scored 5:45 in to the second period, tying the game at 1-1; the period would end with the same score.

The Black Bears took back the lead 29 seconds in to the third period when Tufts scored her second goal of the game. Lydia Murray had the primary assist and Brigham came in with her second assist of the matchup.

Carly Jackson had 27 saves on 28 shots faced. The Black Bears took 18 shots on Dutchwomen goaltender Amelia Murray, who had 16 saves.

The two teams meet each other again on Saturday the 10th at 1pm at Alfond Arena.
