ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The Providence College women's hockey team claimed its first win of the 2016-17 season with a 7-0 victory over RIT on Oct. 7. Ten different Friars tallied at least one point and six players registered multi-point games. The Friars improve to 1-3-0 overall and RIT moves to 0-3-0 overall.

The Friars jumped out to an early lead 2:39 into the game when Blair Parent (Blaine, Minn.) skated through the Friars' offensive zone and into the corner. Parent found Whitney Dove (Port, Moody, British Columbia) in the high slot, who fired a quick shot off the pad of RIT's Brooke Stoddart. The rebound popped out to MacPherson's stick and she fired it home for a 1-0 Friar lead.

Providence struck again, 14 minutes later when Madison Sansone (Lockport, N.Y.) tallied her first of the season and Parent recorded her second assist of the game. After receiving a pass from Avery Fransoo (North Battleford, Saskatchewan), Parent moved the puck to Sansone, who flipped the puck past the RIT defender and then over Stoddart's shoulder to cross goal line. Fransoo's assist marked her first collegiate point.

The Friars held a 15-11 shot advantage in the first and Madison Myers (Colchester, Vt.) turned aside all 11 shots she faced.

Providence added one goal to its lead in the second period. MacPherson picked up a loose puck in the offensive zone and took a shot above the right faceoff dot for her second of the game and to put the Friars ahead 3-0.

After two periods, Providence led in shots (27-18) and Myers totaled 18 saves.

Cassidy Carels (Bruxelles, Manitoba) continued her four-game point streak by scoring on a one-timer off a rush pass from Neve Van Pelt (Mitchell, Ontario) less than two minutes into the third peirod. The assist marks Van Pelt's first collegiate point.

Arianna Reid (Lakeville, Minn.) scored her first career goal with a shot from the point that cleanly beat Stoddart just over five minutes into the third period.

The Friars extended their lead to 6-0 with Brooke Boquist (Thunder Bay, Ontario) scoring her first power play goal of the 2016-17 season. Rachel Rockwell (Broadview Heights, Ohio) moved the puck to Carels at the bottom of the left circle, and then Carels fed Boquist, who took a hard shot that rang off the post and crossbar and into the net.

Meaghan Rickard (Coventry, R.I.) completed the scoring with 4:49 remaining in regulation with her first career goal. Christina Putigna (Grimsby, Ontario) notched her first point of the season by moving the puck up the boards to Boquist. Rickard and Boquist moved into the offensive zone on a two-on-one and Boquist took a hard shot that rebounded right to Rickard for a 7-0 Friar lead.

Myers posted a 24-save shutout for her second career shutout and her first of the 2016-17 season.

The Friars and Tigers will face off again at 2:00 p.m. on Oct. 8 at the Gene Polisseni Center.
