GAME RECAP

New Hampshire recorded the shot advantage all three periods with a final margin of 33-13.

A strong individual effort by Amy Schlagel (Blaine, Minn.) gave UNH a 1-0 lead at 17:48 of the first period. She corralled a loose puck in the high slot and snapped a wrister that sailed wide right of the cage off the end boards. She charged down the slot and, from the right doortstep, lifted a shot behind the goaltender inside the far post.

The scoring sequence began in the defensive zone when Julia Fedeski (Algonquin Highlands, Ontario) intercepted a shot in front of the net and skated behind the net before finding Carlee Turner (Scottsdale, Ariz.) in the neutral zone. A quick pass advanced the puck to Taylor Wenczkowski (Rochester, N.H.), who carried the puck into the offensive zone. A Whitby skater poke-checked the puck but Schlagel, trailing the play, generated the goal.

UNH generated a 9-5 shot advantage in the first period and 11-4 in the scoreless second stanza.

New Hampshire capitalized on an extended power-play sequence -- Whitby was whistled for minor penalties 44 seconds and 2:22 into the frame -- to extend the lead to 2-0 at 2:49 of the third period. Carlee Toews (Grand Prairie, Alberta), positioned in front of the crease, tipped in the shot from the top of the left circle by Jenna Rheault (Deering, N.H.) for the score.

The Wildcats had a two-skater advantage when Toews won possession of the puck in the left corner. She passed the puck off the end boards to Schlagel, and from the right corner she slipped the pass to the near point for Fedeski. As Fedeski backed toward the high slot, one Whitby skater returned from the penalty box. Fedeski sent the puck back to Schlagel at the right point, and her cross-ice pass found Rheault, whose slapshot was tipped in by Toews.

Cashin got the start and made nine saves, including five in the first period, in 29:28.

Smith played the final 30:32 and made four saves, including one in the last minute on a Whitby breakaway.
