CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Carlee Turner's goal midway through the second period proved to be the game-winner as New Hampshire defeated the third-ranked Boston College women's hockey team, 2-1, on Friday afternoon at Kelley Rink.

Boston College (25-3-3, 17-2-3 HEA) out-shot the Wildcats 35-23 in the game, but New Hampshire (14-11-7, 9-7-5 HEA) got on the board first with 35 seconds left in the first period when Meghara McManus converted after Abby Chapman created a turnover at the blue line.

BC's Daryl Watts - the nation's leading goal scorer - tied the game up 4:13 of the second, taking a Caitrin Lonergan feed and finding space past UNH goaltender Ava Boutilier through traffic.

But it was Turner's game-winner just over three minutes later at 7:35 that sealed the game for UNH as Boutilier made 15 of her 34 saves in the final period to keep the Eagles from tying it up. BC's Katie Burt stopped 21 shots in the loss.

UNH's win snapped BC's seven-game winning streak, and marked the Wildcats' first win over the Eagles since Oct. 16, 2013, ending Boston College's 14-game winning streak against UNH.

Boston College returns to action on Tuesday, Feb. 13, when the Eagles host Boston University in the championship game of the 40th Women's Beanpot. Faceoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at BC's Kelley Rink. In the earlier consolation game, Northeastern will meet Harvard at 4:30 p.m. Both games will be streamed live on ESPN3, which is available at WatchESPN.com and the ESPN app. Tournament information and tickets are available at womensbeanpot.com.

HOW IT HAPPENED

1st, 19:25 | UNH GOAL, 0-1 - Abby Chapman jumped on a BC pass out of the defensive zone, and brought the puck back into BC's end. Creating space with a back pass off the boards, Chapman connected with Meghara McManus trailing the play. McManus skated into space and put a shot on target from the top of the circle as Chapman skated in front as a screen, finding space under BC goalie Katie Burt.

2nd, 4:13 | BC GOAL, 1-1 - Willow Corson started the play in BC's defensive end, breaking out and feeding Caitrin Lonergan ahead of her. Lonergan gained the UNH blue line and skated deep to the goal line before throwing a long diagonal pass back through traffic in the slot to Daryl Watts trailing the play. With all five UNH players deep, Watts met the puck and put a quick shot on frame, beating Ava Boutilier from just inside the near faceoff circle to even the score.

2nd, 7:35 | UNH GOAL, 1-2 - Julia Scammell cleared the puck from the UNH end up the near side boards, where Carlee Toews skated up the wing and dumped the puck deep and beating a BC defenseman to it behind Burt's goal. She threw a pass back in front of the goal where Carlee Turner was alone for a one-timer and eventual game-winning goal.
