TROY, N.Y. - Lydia Murray helped the Maine Black Bears edge out the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) Engineers by netting the tie-breaker with 6:36 remaining in the match. Maine defeated RPI, 3-2, on Saturday afternoon at the Houston Field House to improve their season to 3-1-0.

Jessica Jacques kicked off the scoring on Saturday, putting away her first goal of the season off of passes from the back corner by Catherine Tufts. Jacques one-timed the puck right into the back of the net, 14:10 into the match to put the Black Bears up 1-0.

RPI (0-4-0) quickly retaliated during a power play just two minutes later to tie up the score 1-1. Amanda Kimmerle played the puck into dangerous territory right in front of Maine's net and Marisa Raspa stuck her stick out just quick enough to tip the puck into the net for her first goal of the season. Madeleine Burnett tallied an assist.

Maine reclaimed the lead, 2-1, with 5:38 left in the first period as Strandberg netted her first career goal off a give-and-go with Tereza Vanisova. This was Maine's first goal off of a power play so far this season. Brittany Kucera offered up an assist to help move the puck towards net.

The Black Bears held onto this lead through the entire second period, until 4:43 into the third period when the Engineers struck back to once again tie up the game 2-2. With an extra attacker on the ice, the Engineers crashed the Black Bears' defense and Sabrina Repaci snuck a shot into the corner of the net. Dishing out assists were Shayna Tomlinson and Amanda Kimmerle for her second assist of the game.

Adding on assists to the final game winning goal were Hutchison and Vanisova. It was Vanisova who started off the play, skating the puck in and taking the first shot. Hutchison was right there to follow up with a shot of her own off the rebound, but Selander was too quick and deflected the puck away. In swooped Murray to finish off the play with the puck in the back of the net and another win for the Maine women's ice hockey team.

In between the posts, Carly Jackson took away 20 scoring opportunities for the Engineers while on the other side of the ice, Selander chipped in 28 saves throughout the three periods.

The Black Bears will return back home for another two-game weekend series as they take on Robert Morris University on Friday, Oct. 13 and Saturday, Oct 14. Puck will drop at 7 p.m. on Friday.
