Freshman Maddy McArthur earned her first career shutout with 25 saves for the Eagles

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Freshman goaltender Maddy McArthur made 25 saves for her first career shutout and three different Eagles scored in the No. 6 Boston College women's hockey team's 3-0 victory over Vermont on Saturday at Kelley Rink.

Daryl Watts, Makenna Newkirk and Caitrin Lonergan all found the back of the net while six different players had at least one point.

The Catamounts outshot the Eagles, 8-5, in the first period but McArthur was equal to every shot and the teams entered the first intermission scoreless. McArthur's left pad save in the early going of the middle frame kept it scoreless. BC went to the power-play a couple minutes later and Watts converted for her fourth of the year and 1-0 lead. Seven minutes later, the Eagles made it a two-goal lead when Newkirk extended her point streak to five games with her second tally of the season.

With the 2-0 lead after two periods, BC kept the pressure high and didn't allow the Catamounts to get back in the game. UVM pulled Melissa Black with just under two minutes to play in the third but Lonergan's empty-netter cemented the BC win.

Each team finished with 25 shots on goal while Melissa Black finished with 22 saves to McArthur's 25. BC finished with eight blocked shots, five of which came from Cayla Barnes.

BC converted on 1-of-4 power-plays while UVM was 0-for-6.
